Israelis stand as a two-minute siren brings the country to a standstill at exactly 11:00 on Memorial Day.The annual ritual honors the 22,570 men, women and children who were the victims of terror attacks or who had been killed defending the land of Israel since 1860, the year that the first Jewish settlers left the secure walls of Jerusalem's Old City to build new Jewish neighborhoods, and later establish the State of Israel.
