Christian pilgrims take part in a traditional Epiphany baptism ceremony at the Qasr al Yahud baptism site near Jericho in the West Bank. Thousands of Orthodox pilgrims gathered at the site where according to Christian tradition John baptized Jesus in the waters of the biblical river. The pilgrims were baptised in big plastic containers filled with water pumped out from the Jordan River, after the Israeli authorities forbade them to approach the river citing safety concerns.
